Hills...and more hills

Last night I climbed hills. Well, actually, the same hill over and over again. I went up as fast as I could and then walked back down. I did it 4 times and the halfway up the 5th time I felt my hamstring get REALLY tight..so I stopped. Its a little sore today, so tonight I will do 4 easy slow miles.

P.S. Men stink.

9 miles

I did 9 miles on Saturday with my new Garmin 201! It was awesome. I had a virtual training partner that I set to an 11 min/mile pace and stayed ahead of him the whole time! I ended up doing 9.01 miles at an average 10.24 pace. A little faster than I wanted to go, but I felt pretty good afterwards. I will have to slow it down for my next long run or I wont be able to finish. The weather was beautiful and cool. I will have to wear my headband next time, as I got a little bit of an earache.

Tempo run....?

Well, last night I attempted a 4 mile tempo run. Apparently a tempo run is like this.... Run 10 min easy, Run 20 min at 30 sec slower than your 10k race pace, then run 10 min easy.

I think maybe I ran the 20 min at my 5K race pace, cause I was literally dying at about 35 min. I made it back to the house in 40 min, but was spent. I really wish I'd get my garmin in, so I knew what pace I was actually running.

I did lift weights afterwords and worked my arms a little bit.

Note to self: Dont eat Sonic on the day of a run.

Saturdays semi long run

Well Saturday I did 8 miles! The weather was gorgeous. I wanted to keep an 11 min/mile pace and did it!! I reached 4 miles at exactly 44 min. I finished in an hour 29 min. So I lost one minute on the way back, but still a pretty good time. I am gonna try 9 to 10 miles next Saturday. Hopefully it will feel as good as this last one.

Little Rock marathon

Most of you know I've run one marathon. Well two years later, I have the bug again. I am going to do the Little Rock marathon. At least I'm pretty sure I am going to. I have only one real reason for doing it. It has THE largest medal in the USA. Last years medal weighed a full pound. It is 7 hours from my house, so I can drive it without too much hassle. I am a little worried. I ran the Lincoln marathon in 5:11:19, and I contribute my poor time to the lack of training and the fact that the last 6 miles I ran into a 50 mph headwind. That being said...Little Rock is a much more challenging course. And by challenging, I mean its got hills. And from the sounds of it, it has one from the 13-16 mile mark (the point I was the most tired in Lincoln) and a big hill at mile 25. Yikes!

At least when I did Lincoln I had only 2 long runs over 18 miles in. This new schedule has me running at least 4 before the race.

Wish me luck and if you've run Little Rock, let me know how it went. Here is where I've been reading about it. Let me know what you think.
